Final season of Anthony Bourdain’s ‘Parts Unknown’ to return this fall, both with and without him

CNN(LOS ANGELES) — The seven-episode, 12th and final season of Anthony Bourdain’s acclaimed series Parts Unknown will air this fall on CNN, the Los Angeles Times reports.

Just one episode was completed prior to Bourdain’s death by suicide on June 8, and that installment — a trip to Kenya, Africa with TV host W. Kamau Bell — will be the only one from the final season to include Bourdain’s narration.

Bourdain hanged himself in his room at a luxury hotel in the tiny village of Kaysersberg in the Alsace region of northeast France. He’d been on location filming an episode that featured his friend and fellow chef Eric Ripert.

Other episodes that had been shot but not finished will feature the celebrity chef interacting with others, but obviously will not include the voiceovers that were such a huge part of Parts Unknown and Bourdain’s previous series, No Reservations.

The Los Angeles Times reports that each of those episodes — including jaunts to Texas, the U.S.-Mexico border, Indonesia, the Asturias region of Spain and Manhattan’s Lower East Side — “will feel slightly different depending on what’s gathered in the field,” according to Amy Entelis, the executive vice president of talent and content at CNN. She launched Parts Unknown in 2013.

The penultimate episode will go behind-the-scenes of the acclaimed series, while the final installment will center on Bourdain’s impact on the world, through the eyes of friends and fans.
