Jessica Alba is back-to-school shopping for a good cause

Michael Simon/startraksphoto.com(NEW YORK) — Summer is still in full swing, but Jessica Alba is already in back-to-school mode – and for good reason.

The actress is teaming up with Staples and DonorsChoose.org to help provide students and teachers with the supplies they need to succeed for the coming school year. Not only is she raising public awareness for the cause, she’s using the opportunity to teach her kids about giving back as well.

Alba’s daughters Honor and Haven are heading into fifth and second grades respectively.

“[Back-to-school shopping] is fun because they can express themselves and [I’m] able to tie it back to a life lesson that not everyone is given the same opportunities that they are or have the same resources that we have as a family,” she tells ABC Radio, “but they still deserve to learn and thrive as young people and develop.”

The mom-of-three – she also has seven-month-old son Hayes — and founder of The Honest Co. says she realizes she’s a role model for a lot of working moms out there, but she’s just trying to do her best and not be, as she puts it, “too much of a hot mess.”

To follow Alba’s example, all you have to do is make a donation at your local Staples to support classroom projects. Staples will be matching any donations. They’re also launching a sweepstakes, where one lucky student can win a $50,000 scholarship grand prize.
