Johnny Depp accuses Amber Heard of “punching” him while they were married

ABC/Randy Holmes(LOS ANGELES) — In a new court filing, Johnny Depp is accusing his ex-wife Amber Heard of “punching” him in the face while they were married.

The court documents were filed by Depp as part a libel case against the U.K. tabloid The Sun, in which he’s disputing claims by the paper that he was violent toward Heard.

In the documents, obtained by People magazine, Depp alleges that after arriving at a 30th birthday party for Heard in 2016, the actor, who was “not drunk or high on drugs,” was reading in bed when Heard, who had been drinking, allegedly became “aggressive and violent, punching him twice in the face.” Depp allegedly responded by “grabbing [her] arms to stop her punching him again and told her to stop.” He then claims he pushed Heard onto the bed and told her he was leaving and not to follow him.

Heard’s attorney tells People the allegations are “totally false,” adding, “Mr. Depp is currently being sued in multiple venues, including for assaulting a location manager on the set of City of Lies. On many occasions, eyewitnesses observed the extent of the abuse Mr. Depp inflicted on Ms. Heard.”

Heard’s lawyer is referring to a location manager for City of Lies who alleges Depp punched him while on the set. City of Lies director Brad Furman says the claims are “exaggerated” and that Depp is a “consummate professional.”

Depp’s filing also disputes Heard’s account of another incident in 2016, in which she claims he threw an iPhone at her face. Depp claims he threw the phone on the sofa and that it “did not hit Ms. Heard on the face or elsewhere,” an account he says is corroborated by police reports.

Depp, 55, and Heard, 32, divorced in January after two years of marriage.
