Local Sports for Monday November 26th

The Mitchell Lady Marlins earned their second win of the young season and exploded for nine goals in a 9-1 win at Watertown against the Lakers over the weekend.  Ashley Jones finished with four goals in the game after notching two in the third period to pull away.  Jenna Grosdidier got the hat trick as Mitchell scored three goals in the first six minutes of the final period.  Katelyn Uithoven stopped 20 of 21 shots in goal for Mitchell, 2-1 overall.  The Lady Marlins have now won two games in a row, totaling 15 goals, after an 8-1 loss to Aberdeen to begin the season.  Mitchell travels to Sioux Falls for a 2:15pm puck drop on Sunday.  The next home hockey date for the Mitchell Lady Marlins will be December 9th against Huron at Noon.

 

The SDSU football team will host Duquesne in second-round action of the Football Championship Subdivision playoffs Saturday at Dana J. Dykhouse Stadium in Brookings.  Duquesne won at Towson, 31-10, scoring the final 31 points of the game Saturday afternoon. The Jackrabbits, 8-2 overall, are seeded fifth and received a first-round bye. SDSU is making its seventh consecutive appearance, and eighth overall, in the 24-team FCS playoffs and is a top-eight seed for the third year in a row.  Game time for Saturday is set for 2:00pm with the Jackrabbit Pre-Game Show starting at 1:00pm on KORN News Radio.  Video streaming will be available exclusively through ESPN3.com.  Tickets are currently on sale online at JackrabbitTickets.com. The Jackrabbit Ticket Office, which is in the Stanley J. The SDSU women’s basketball team went 0-2 at the South Point Thanksgiving Shootout in Las Vegas over the weekend and fell to 3-3 overall after losing to Baylor and Buffalo in back-to-back nights.  South Dakota State returns home Thursday to host Green Bay in an attempt to get back in the win column.  Tip-off Thursday will be at 7:00pm from Frost Arena in Brookings.  December 4th the Jack women will head to Tennessee to play at Chattanooga.

 

The SDSU men’s basketball team, 5-2 overall, will return to Frost Arena in Brookings on Wednesday to host Kansas City at 7:00pm.  The Jacks will then head to Minneapolis to play in the US Bank Stadium Classic against Northern Iowa on Saturday with tip-off slated for 8:00pm.

 

The DWU basketball teams return to action on Wednesday with a doubleheader at Briar Cliff. The Tiger women, ranked #2 in NAIA, are 9-0 overall and 5-0 in the GPAC with four wins against teams ranked in the Top 16 in the country. The #17 ranked DWU men are 7-2 overall and 3-2 in the GPAC while Briar Cliff is ranked #10 in NAIA at 7-1 overall and 4-1 in the conference. The next home games for the women will be December 12th against Dakota State followed by a showdown with top ranked Concordia on December 15th that is part of a doubleheader with the men. The women tipoff at 6:00pm followed by the men Wednesday night in Sioux City.

 

The Mitchell Kernel gymnastics team begins their season tonight with a triangular against Yankton and Ethan-Hanson-Parkston at the MEGA Gymnastics Center. The wrestling season begins Friday for the Kernels with a home dual against Chamberlain followed by the Watertown Tournament on Saturday.  The Kernel basketball team’s tip-off the season Saturday, December 8th with a home doubleheader against Huron.  Practice for all girls and boy’s basketball teams started this morning across the state.
