Antoine Fuqua wants Denzel Washington for an ‘Equalizer 3’

Glen Wilson/Sony Pictures(LOS ANGELES) — With less than two weeks at the box office, The Equalizer 2 director Antoine Fuqua is already thinking about about the film’s third installment.

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Fuqua shared his thoughts on the potential “threequel,” saying he’d definitely want to have the film’s star return for a third chapter

“I’m looking forward to The Equalizer 3, if that happens. I would love for it to take place internationally, I think Denzel [Washington] would be a great James Bond-type character,” Fuqua said. “Denzel and I talk about a lot of different things. I’ve got some things I’m developing and roles I’d like him to play.”

Fuqua continues, “Normally, that’s how it works with him. I’m dreaming him up as a cowboy or something, and then I’ve got to go pitch it.”

Another role that Fuqua has in mind for the Oscar-winning star is his upcoming adaptation of Scarface.

My dream is for him to be Scarface,” he said. “He laughs sometimes and he kind of goes, ‘[Al] Pacino did a great job! I don’t want to do that.’ I’m nudging him. I’m trying to nudge him into doing it.'”

While the forthcoming remake may be an option for Washington, the actor told ABC radio in July that he’s not looking to do a third installment of Equalizer.

“No. Well, I don’t need to,” he said. “I got Equalizer [already] .”

Miss Universe competition heads to Thailand with Steve Harvey returning as host

ABC/Lisa Rose(LOS ANGELES) — Steve Harvey is headed to Thailand with the lovely and accomplished women of the 2018 Miss Universe pageant.

According to Deadline, Harvey has been tapped to once again host the competition, which will take place in Bangkok, Thailand. This will be Harvey’s fourth time hosting the event.

As you may recall, Harvey received some major backlash in 2015 after he misread the winner’s card and announced Miss Colombia as the winner instead of actual winner Miss Philippines.  But Miss Universe still invited the veteran talk show host back in 2016, saying it would give him a shot to redeem himself in Belize. He also hosted the following year’s pageant in Las Vegas.

So far, there haven’t been any foul-ups since the 2015 incident.

The 2018 Miss Universe competition will air live on Sunday, December 16 from 7 to 10 PM ET on Fox.

Paul Walker’s family remembers the man behind the leading man in the documentary ‘I Am Paul Walker’

Paramount Network(LOS ANGELES) — It’s no secret that off-screen, the late Paul Walker loved his charitable work and adored his daughter, Meadow.

In the new documentary, I Am Paul Walker, fans get an up-close look at the Fast & Furious star, who died in a car crash in 2013 at the age of 40.

“He didn’t idolize all these people and go, ‘I wanna be a big movie star one day,'” his brother Cody Walker told GMA in advance of the documentary’s release later this month.

In fact, he stayed out of the spotlight, often spending his free time working with his non-profit, Reach Out Worldwide. He was especially protective when it came to protecting Meadow.

“He loved her. He was so proud of her,” Cody said. “He also carried a lot of guilt for not being the traditional type of father that was necessarily there every step of the way.”

Cody continued, “He would say things like, ‘I only have this many more years until she’s all grown up’…He had signed on to do a…another…three-movie deal. And then got the news that she was gonna come live with him. And he went immediately to go get himself out of [the deal], but it was just beyond that point of no return. And it crushed him.”

The loss is still hard on the family, including Paul’s father.

“I see Paul’s face all the time. I had this, whatever you wanna call it…this voice said, ‘Good to see you, Dad.’ And then it was, ‘Don’t be afraid, it’s your son, Paul.’ Crazy, but I think of that … it makes me feel good,” his father Paul Walker Sr. said, choking up.

I Am Paul Walker airs Aug. 11 at 9 p.m. EST on the Paramount Network.

Johnny Depp accuses Amber Heard of “punching” him while they were married

ABC/Randy Holmes(LOS ANGELES) — In a new court filing, Johnny Depp is accusing his ex-wife Amber Heard of “punching” him in the face while they were married.

The court documents were filed by Depp as part a libel case against the U.K. tabloid The Sun, in which he’s disputing claims by the paper that he was violent toward Heard.

In the documents, obtained by People magazine, Depp alleges that after arriving at a 30th birthday party for Heard in 2016, the actor, who was “not drunk or high on drugs,” was reading in bed when Heard, who had been drinking, allegedly became “aggressive and violent, punching him twice in the face.” Depp allegedly responded by “grabbing [her] arms to stop her punching him again and told her to stop.” He then claims he pushed Heard onto the bed and told her he was leaving and not to follow him.

Heard’s attorney tells People the allegations are “totally false,” adding, “Mr. Depp is currently being sued in multiple venues, including for assaulting a location manager on the set of City of Lies. On many occasions, eyewitnesses observed the extent of the abuse Mr. Depp inflicted on Ms. Heard.”

Heard’s lawyer is referring to a location manager for City of Lies who alleges Depp punched him while on the set. City of Lies director Brad Furman says the claims are “exaggerated” and that Depp is a “consummate professional.”

Depp’s filing also disputes Heard’s account of another incident in 2016, in which she claims he threw an iPhone at her face. Depp claims he threw the phone on the sofa and that it “did not hit Ms. Heard on the face or elsewhere,” an account he says is corroborated by police reports.

Depp, 55, and Heard, 32, divorced in January after two years of marriage.

Nicole Kidman could play former anchor Gretchen Carlson in Fox News harassment drama

Rick Rowell-Paula Lobo/ABC(LOS ANGELES) — Oscar winner Nicole Kidman is in talks to play former Fox News anchor Gretchen Carlson in the untitled film about the late, disgraced Fox News Chief Roger Ailes — and the women who took him down.

Kidman would join Charlize Theron, who’as already been cast as former Fox News host Megyn Kelly.

Carlson was the first woman to file a sexual harassment suit against Ailes after she was fired, leading to Ailes’ exit from Fox News and exposing the alleged culture of sexual harassment there.

In 2017, one of the network’s stars, Bill O’Reilly — at the time the highest-rated host on cable news — was also forced out, when the network’s sexual harassment investigation reportedly turned up multiple allegations against him.

Margot Robbie is also eyeing a role in the film.

J.J. Abrams’ first-ever tweet honors Carrie Fisher, announces ‘Star Wars IX’ shooting has begun

Keith Tsuji/Getty Images(NEW YORK) — Believe it or not, there’s actually a Hollywood celebrity who’s not on Twitter.  Or wasn’t, until just now.

Writer/director J.J. Abrams joined Twitter Wednesday, and used his very first tweet to announce that shooting’s started on Star Wars Episode IX, while also honoring the late Carrie Fisher.

“Bittersweet starting this next chapter without Carrie, but thanks to an extraordinary cast and crew, we are ready to go,” Abrams wrote, adding “[S]pecial thanks to George Lucas for creating this incredible world and beginning a story of which we are lucky to be a part.”

Last week it was announced that Fisher, who died in 2016, would appear in Episode IX via unused footage Abrams shot for The Force Awakens.

As of midnight Wednesday U.S. ET, Abrams had 29.7 thousand Twitter followers, and his inaugural tweet had been retweeted over 11 thousand times.

Stars Wars Episode IX is slated to open nationwide December 20, 2019.

Hillary Clinton to team up with Steven Spielberg for suffragette-themed TV project ‘The Woman’s Hour’

ABC/Randy Holmes(LOS ANGELES) — Hillary Clinton will be teaming up with Oscar-winner Steven Spielberg to adapt Elaine Weiss’ book The Woman’s Hour: The Great Fight to Win the Vote for a television project.

The former first lady and Secretary of State will gain a new title — executive producer — for the project, which documents the battle to ratify the 19th Amendment, which gave women the right to vote.

“The book celebrates those who changed history and laid the foundation for the civil rights movement that came decades later,” according to a press release obtained by ABC News.

In the statement, Mrs. Clinton said, “At the heart of democracy lies the ballot box, and Elaine Weiss’ unforgettable book tells the story of the female leaders who — in the face of towering economic, racial and political opposition — fought for and won American women’s right to vote.”

She continues, “Unfolding over six weeks in the summer of 1920, The Woman’s Hour is both a page-turning drama and an inspiration for everyone, young and old, male and female, in these perilous times. So much could have gone wrong, but these American women would not take no for an answer: Their triumph is our legacy to guard and emulate.”

She added, “I am thrilled to be working with Elaine, Steven and everyone at Amblin Television on bringing this important project to audiences everywhere.”

According to The Hollywood Reporter, while Weiss was writing her book, she was “struck by the parallels between women’s suffrage movement and the 2016 presidential election.”

After Trump won the election, THR notes, Weiss desperately tried — and eventually succeeded — in getting her book into Mrs. Clinton’s hands.

Sherri Shepherd stresses importance of sisterhood in Hollywood: “We need other women to help us stay strong”

ABC/Lisa Rose(NEW YORK) — Sherri Shepherd has been through a lot over the last few years. After a messy divorce and child support battle with her now ex-husband Lamar Sally, Sherri is thanking some of her close girlfriends for standing with her thought it all.

“It scares me when I hear women say, ‘I don’t get along with other women, because these other women — they this and they…’ I get scared for you,” Shepherd tells ABC Radio. “Because we need other women to help us stay strong. You need women.”

Two of the supportive women in Sherri’s life are her fellow actress-comedians, Niecy Nash and Kym Whitley. Shepherd, who often features the women on her social media, admits she’s not hesitant to call on them when she needs a few words of encouragement.

“And so I’m very, very about my friends,” Shepherd continues. “And I have to say Niecy, Kim, they’re both bridesmaids at my wedding. They have held me through some of the most horrific moments of my life. The moments when I was down.”

She, too: Jennifer Aniston says she’s been “treated worse” by women than men in Hollywood

Photo by Michael Tran/FilmMagic(LOS ANGELES) — When it comes to toxic workplace environments, Jennifer Aniston said she has been treated worse by women than men in Hollywood.

Aniston was asked about the #MeToo movement and more in a new wide-ranging interview for the September issue of InStyle.

“I’ve definitely had some sloppy moves made on me by other actors, and I handled it by walking away,” she told interviewer Molly McNearney, who is married to Jimmy Kimmel and has known Aniston for half-a-dozen years.

Aniston added, “I’ve never had anyone in a position of power make me feel uncomfortable and leverage that over me. In my personal experience, I’ve been treated worse verbally and energetically by some women in this industry.”

Still, she said, the #MeToo movement is “long overdue.”

“But we also need to be better at listening to one another,” she said. “That includes men. They need to be part of this conversation.”

The 49-year-old Friends alum, who stars in the new movie Dumplin‘, added that she has also gotten her “fair share of sexism in the media.”

“Women are picked apart and pitted against one another based on looks and clothing and superficial stuff,” she said. “When a couple breaks up in Hollywood, it’s the woman who is scorned. The woman is left sad and alone. She’s the failure. F that. When was the last time you read about a divorced, childless man referred to as a spinster?”

Contrary to tabloid reports, Aniston told InStyle “I’m not heartbroken” since splitting from second husband Justin Theroux in February.

Aniston has been vocal in the past about being a target of the tabloids, both during and after her marriages to Brad Pitt and Theroux.

The September issue of InStyle, with Aniston on the cover, hits newsstands August 10.
