Will Smith on his debut as a stand-up comedian: “I AM HOOKED”

ABC/Randy Holmes(LOS ANGELES) — Will Smith took his first crack at stand-up comedy this week and he loved it.

In an Instagram post on Thursday night, Smith shared a series of photos from his comedy debut.

“I did Stand Up last night… FIRST TIME EVER!,” he wrote. “I opened for Dave Chappelle. I AM HOOKED.”

According to Variety, Smith made his stand-up comedy debut at the Peppermint Club on Wednesday night in Los Angeles, as part of Chappelle’s three-and-a-half hour surprise show. Smith was said to have filmed his set as part of his new Bucket List video series, which has yet to be released. The actor explained that his 50th birthday was coming up and doing stand up was definitely on his “bucket list.”

The private event was attended by the likes of Jon Stewart, Katt Williams and LeBron James, and Will’s wife Jade Pinkett Smith and daughter Willow were also in the audience.

Variety reports that some of Will’s jokes included how he lost control of his house after Jada’s Red Table Talk show on Facebook Watch turned their garage into a control booth, and how his son Jaden now considers him “the second-best rapper in the house!”

‘Thor’ co-stars Chris Hemsworth, Tessa Thompson “make it look good” in sneak peek of ‘Men in Black’ reboot

ABC/Radhika Chalasani(LONDON) — Thor: Ragnarok co-stars Chris Hemsworth and Tessa Thompson are front and center in a black-and-white, on-set social media snap that gives fans their first look at them in the as-yet-untitled reboot of the Men in Black franchise, which will be based in the U.K.

The pair can be seen on Hemsworth’s Insta, wearing most of their get-ups as members of the super-secret alien enforcement agency. Despite not sporting the MiB trademark black Armani jackets, to paraphrase Will Smith’s MIB character, Thompson and Hemsworth certainly “make it look good” in matching white shirts and skinny black ties.

Thompson’s Insta shows the pair in the same place, with Hemsworth making a fish-lipped face to the camera.

Thor’s alter-ego also posted a spinning selfie video, with the caption, “I do all my own stunts.”

The still-untitled Men in Black reboot features Emma Thompson reprising her Men in Black 3 leader character Agent O, and will also co-star Rebecca Ferguson, and Liam Neeson.  It’s set to open June 14, 2019.

Round 3 – ‘Daredevil’ returns October 19

David Lee/Netflix(NEW YORK) — The third season of the acclaimed Netflix Marvel series Daredevil will hit the streaming service October 19.

In a promo revealing the return, Charlie Cox’s Matt Murdock — blind lawyer for the oppressed by day, masked vigilante by night — has fallen from the light spiritually. Bloodied and  partially in shadow, Cox’s character says in voiceover, “You can suffocate evil. Starve it. Lock it behind bars, but it will come back even stronger. There’s only one true way to end evil: To finish it for good.”

“Let the devil out,” he whispers, as he’s suddenly seen smirking in his black ninja mask.

When fans last saw Murdock, he was badly injured and presumed dead after the events of the team-up series The Defenders. As the proo suggests, Murdoch’s return will show that he’s losing faith in his “day job’s” ability to keep evil at bay.

Based on the comic characters created by Stan Lee and Bill Everett, Daredevil also stars returning players Vincent D’Onofrio, Deborah Ann Woll, and Elden Henson. Joanne Whalley is a new addition to the cast, as Sister Maggie, a confidante who nurses Murdoch’s bruised body and faith — and who may also be his long-lost mother.

Marvel is owned by Disney, the parent company of ABC News.

Run, Forrest! Run! Michael Moore thinks Tom Hanks should be the next president

ABC(NEW YORK) — Filmmaker Michael Moore wants to tap a Hollywood legend for a White House run: Tom Hanks.

“When [people] say people don’t love Trump,” Moore tells ABC’s Peter Travers, “I [say] you clearly have never watched ‘The Apprentice! People loved that show. [Trump] was a beloved figure! Why don’t we [Democrats] run beloved figures?”

When Travers asked Moore whom he would choose as the next Democratic presidential nominee, Moore instantly had an answer.

“Tom Hanks,” he said. “Who wouldn’t vote for Tom Hanks. Why not? I’ve asked him twice now to run and he won’t run.”

He added, “I even offered [to] be the VP, I’ll do all the work. You just show up at nice things and smile and be happy. Oprah, who wouldn’t vote for Oprah? How about Michelle Obama? Who wouldn’t vote for Michelle Obama? Come on, we could win if we ran somebody people wanted to vote for.”

For his newest film, Fahrenheit 11/9, Moore spoke to Americans across the country about their thoughts on the Trump presidency. The date in the title refers to the day President Trump’s victory in the 2016 election was confirmed, and is play on the title of Moore’s 2004 film Fahrenheit 9/11, about then-President George W. Bush, the 9/11 attacks and the second Iraq war.

Moore was one of the few who predicted Donald Trump would win the election and said Trump could even be a two-term president.

Fahrenheit 11/9 is in theaters everywhere.

Josh Groban on his “unexpected” role opposite Tony Danza in “The Good Cop,” now streaming on Netflix

Netflix(NEW YORK) — Josh Groban’s new album Bridges is out today — and so is his new Netflix sitcom, The Good Cop.  It stars Josh as a by-the-book police lieutenant who clashes with his ex-con dirty cop of a dad, played by Tony Danza.

Josh says the offer to star in the show came out of nowhere, and he just couldn’t turn it down.

“I was reached out to by Andy Breckman, who created the show and previously wrote and created Monk,” Josh tells ABC Radio. “I got a letter…from him saying, “I think you’re right for this part. “[He said] this was something he’d thought of while he was writing the script.”

“I mean, every amazing kind of life-changing thing that’s happened to me has been an unexpected door and a fork in the road that’s opened up and you just gotta walk through it, y’know?” Josh adds. “And so I said yes!”

Part of the appeal was that Josh’s Good Cop role was far removed from the character he’d been playing in the Broadway musical Natasha, Pierre and the Great Comet of 1912.

“It’s not often as an actor to get a chance to go so 180 within the same two-year period,” he notes.  And the Netflix factor helped seal the deal, he says.

“Timing was an issue,” he explains. “If this had been a network…26-episode thing, I would have had to say no.  So the fact that it’s a 10-episode series — each hour is its own mystery and this team of misfits solving these crimes — was great.”

“I also just happened to like the way Netflix operates,” Josh adds. “…The way that they provide content to their subscribers is so forward-thinking…and they’re putting the passion behind it.”

Report: Michael B. Jordan launching film series based on Tom Clancy’s John Clark

Disney(LOS ANGELES) — Variety is reporting that, arguably, one of the coolest actors working in Hollywood today, Michael B. Jordan, will be playing, arguably, the coolest character created by the late thriller author Tom Clancy.

The trade notes that the Creed and Black Panther veteran will play John Clark in a new series about the Navy SEAL-turned vigilante-turned head of the elite international anti-terror group Rainbow Six.

Jordan will reportedly play him in an origin story based on Clancy’s revenge thriller Without Remorse, leading to a Rainbow Six movie based on the squad, which has been the grist of multiple Clancy books and a hit video game series.

Incidentally, the Clark character was played twice before on the big screen, once by Willem Dafoe opposite Harrison Ford’s Jack Ryan in 1994’s Clear and Present Danger, and again in 2002 by Liev Schreiber, opposite Ben Affleck, in the latter actor’s attempted reboot of the Jack Ryan character.

Clark and Ryan have a long history in the Clancy books, having served as a confidante, fixer, and even bodyguard for Ryan over decades. Ryan is now played by John Krasinski in Amazon’s Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan series.

‘Atlanta’ Emmy nominee Brian Tyree Henry, Aubrey Plaza tapped to headline reboot of ‘Child’s Play’ movies

Photo by Roy Rochlin/Getty Images(LOS ANGELES) — Atlanta‘s Brian Tyree Henry and Parks and Recreation alum-turned Legion star Aubrey Plaza will go head-to-head with a twenty-nine inch psychopath named Chucky.

According to Entertainment Weekly, the upcoming Child’s Play reboot has cast the pair for the film’s lead roles.

Emmy-nominated Atlanta star Henry is set to play Greg, a detective investigating the strange, “happenings surrounding the doll’s nefarious spree.” Meanwhile, Plaza will play Karen, a mother who ends up giving her son the doll — later revealed to be Chucky — for his birthday.

According to Collider, the planned film will deviate from the original version by following “a group of kids and a technologically-advanced doll that enters their world.”

Production on Child’s Play is set to begin later this year in Vancouver.

Watch now: Jordan Peele narrates famous ‘Twilight Zone’ intro in teaser-trailer for series reboot

ABC/Randy Holmes(LOS ANGELES) — What more proof do we need?  CBS has confirmed Jordan Peele will officially serve as host of their forthcoming Twilight Zone reboot, by releasing a teaser-trailer featuring Peele narrating the series’ classic opening.

The teaser features the Oscar-winning Get Out writer and director echoing the introductory monologue spoken by the late series creator and host, Rod Serling.

“Rod Serling was an uncompromising visionary who not only shed light on social issues of his time, but prophesied issues of ours,” said Peele, who also serves as the reboot’s executive producer.  “I’m honored to carry on his legacy to a new generation of audiences as the gatekeeper of The Twilight Zone.”

The original Twilight Zone aired on CBS from 1959 to 1964.  The award-winning anthology series used science-fiction, fantasy and horror stories to explore social issues of the day.  There was also a 1983 Twilight Zone movie produced by Steven Spielberg, as well as two other short-lived TV reboots, the most recent in 2002, hosted by another Oscar winner, Forest Whitaker.

The new Twilight Zone will begin production this fall for a 2019 premiere on CBS All Access.
