MITCHELL KERNELS
— Mitchell Kernels volleyball host Sioux Falls Roosevelt on Thursday at 7 pm on KORN News Radio. Mitchell came back down 2-0 on Tuesday night to win at Brookings 3-2. The Kernels lost the first two sets 13-25 and 19-25 before winning the final three sets 26-24, 25-19 and 15-13.
— Mitchell Kernels boys golf returns to action on Monday at the ESD Conference meet in Brookings. Mitchell senior Asher Dannenbring won the Watertown Invitational on Tuesday, earning his third tournament title of the season.
— Mitchell Kernels girls tennis defeated Watertown 7-2 on Tuesday to improve to 15-4 on the season. Mitchell hosts Brandon Valley on Friday at 9 a.m. in their final home dual of the regular season.
— Mitchell Kernels girls soccer, 3-6-1 on the season, lost to Brandon Valley on Tuesday 1-0. Mitchell will be at Watertown on Thursday at 5 pm

DAKOTA WESLEYAN
— Waldorf swept 12th-ranked Dakota Wesleyan volleyball on Wednesday night 3-0 (25-21, 25-20, 28-26) in Forest City, Iowa. The loss drops DWU to 13-4 overall and 2-3 in conference play. Keatyn Liebsack led DWU with nine kills. The Tigers return home Saturday to host No. 2 Concordia at 3 p.m.
— Dakota Wesleyan women’s soccer, 2-1-2 on the season, defeated Northwestern on Wednesday 2-1. The Tigers will be at Doane on Saturday at 5 pm.
— Dakota Wesleyan men’s soccer, 2-2-1 on the season, defeated Northwestern on Wednesday 2-0. The Tigers will be at Doane on Saturday at 7:15 pm.
— Dakota Wesleyan football, 3-1 on the season and 3-0 on the GPAC, visit Midland on Saturday at 1 pm.

MINNESOTA TWINS
— Pinch-hitter Walker Jenkins hit an RBI single in the seventh inning that put Minnesota ahead as the Twins defeated the San Francisco Giants 4-2. With two outs, Josh Bell added an RBI single to increase the Twins lead to 4-2. Yoendrys Gomez retired all five hitters he faced to earn the win in relief. Andrew Morris worked a scoreless ninth for his fifth save. The Twins start their final series of the season at home on Friday vs. the Texas Rangers at 7:10 pm.
MINNESOTA VIKINGS
— Minnesota Vikings running back Aaron Jones is dealing with a knee injury and was held out of practice on Wednesday. Jones played through the injury Sunday in Minnesota’s win over Chicago, rushing for 105 yards on 23 carries while wearing a knee brace. Coach Kevin O’Connell says Jones feels pretty good, but his status for Sunday’s game at Tampa Bay remains uncertain. The Vikings are also without backup Jordan Mason, who is on injured reserve with a fractured thumb.
NFL
— New York Giants quarterback Jaxson Dart is expected to undergo season-ending surgery on his left knee. An MRI showed damage to the MCL and PCL ligaments, along with the meniscus. Dart was injured Monday night against the Rams when his leg bent awkwardly after being hit by two defenders. Jameis Winston will take over as the Giants’ starter Sunday against Tennessee.
— Former NFL WR Antonio Brown plans to plead no contest to aggravated assault in a Miami attempted murder case. His attorney says Brown will receive probation and avoid prison under the proposed deal. Brown is accused of taking a security guard’s handgun after a 2025 celebrity boxing match and firing two shots at a man he had fought earlier. One bullet grazed the man’s neck. Brown maintains he was acting in self-defense. He’s scheduled to appear in court Sept. 30.

— Josh Naylor singled home Randy Arozarena with the game winning run in the 10th inning as the Seattle Mariners kept their slim playoff hopes alive by rallying past the Houston Astros 6-5. Houston (78-80) remained tied atop the AL West with Texas. The Mariners (74-84) are four games back with four to play.
— Marcus Semien hit a tiebreaking homer in the eighth inning, while Brett Baty added a pinch-hit grand slam in the ninth as the New York Mets beat the Texas Rangers 7-2.
— Sonny Gray pitched six innings to tie Philadelphia’s Cristopher Sánchez for the major league lead with his 18th victory, while Andruw Monasterio drove in the only run with a sixth-inning single as the Boston Red Sox shutout Cleveland 1-0 to snap the Guardians’ six-game winning streak.
— Maikel Garcia had three hits and three RBIs, including a tiebreaking, run-scoring double in the seventh inning, as the Kansas City Royals beat the White Sox 5-4. Chicago remained one game behind Cleveland for first place in the AL Central and three games in front of Texas for the final AL Wild Card spot with four games left.
— Pete Alonso hit his 41st home run of the season, while Chris Bassitt took a shutout into the sixth inning as the Baltimore Orioles beat the Toronto Blue Jays 4-2 in the first game of a doubleheader, eliminating the defending American League champions from the postseason race. The Orioles and Blue Jays both entered the day one loss from elimination. Baltimore also won game two of the doubleheader 4-2.
— Manny Machado homered and drove in three runs as the San Diego Padres beat the Los Angeles Dodgers 5-1 to take sole possession of the top spot in the National League wild-card standings. The loss snapped the Dodgers 11-game home winning streak.
— Corbin Carroll had a two-run triple to cap a four-run first inning as the Arizona Diamondbacks kept their playoff hopes alive with a 5-3 victory over the Colorado Rockies. Arizona is three games back of Philadelphia and the Chicago Cubs with four game left.
— Christian Yelich and Brice Turang hit solo home runs as the Milwaukee Brewers delayed Philadelphia’s potential postseason clinch with a 4-1 win over the Phillies. The Phillies needed both a win over the Brewers and a loss later Wednesday night by either Arizona or San Diego to secure their fifth straight trip to the National League playoffs.
— Kyle Stowers homered as the Miami Marlins prevented the Chicago Cubs from clinching a playoff berth for the second straight night with a 3-2 victory.
— Chris Sale struck out 10 and reached 200 Ks for the season, while Mauricio Dubón delivered a winning RBI single in the 10th inning as the Atlanta Braves defeated the Cincinnati Reds 3-2.
— Ben Rice hit his 40th and 41st home runs, Ryan McMahon added a grand slam while matching his career high with five RBIs as the New York Yankees beat the Tampa Bay Rays 9-2.
