After returning home to Pittsburgh from a difficult trip last Friday, April Schmitt discovered the diamond from her engagement ring was missing, likely lost while retrieving her suitcase from the baggage carousel at Pittsburgh International Airport.
She returned to the airport and, joined by four maintenance employees, made a thorough search for the stone, but came up empty handed.
However, several hours later, airport staff located the one-and-a-quarter carat diamond underneath the carousel using a tool they fashioned from a pair of paint sticks.
The diamond, which holds deep sentimental value after 34 years of marriage, was returned to an ecstatic Schmitt, ending her unlucky Friday the 13th on a positive note.
