Marvel Studios(LOS ANGELES) — The latest Marvel movie, Ant-Man and The Wasp, had its big premiere Monday night in Hollywood, and its stars talked about the how film is the first of the recent Marvel movies to have a female superhero’s name in the title.
No one understands the importance of that more than 10-year-old Abby Ryder Fortson, who plays Paul Rudd’s daughter in the film.
“I think it is very inspiring for young girls to have a female superhero because there’s not many and I think the Wasp is very tough but hilarious,” she told ABC Radio, even admitting that she’d rather be The Wasp than Ant-Man.
Ingrid Kleinig, The Wasp’s stunt double, also understands the importance of female superheroes. “I think that is so important that we have that for the younger generation of females coming up today,” she said.
The Wasp — played by Evangeline Lilly — isn’t the only strong female in the movie. The film also stars Michelle Pfeiffer, who plays Lilly’s mom.
“I was so nervous that I didn’t want to act like a fool, and she was disarmingly cool and just so chill and not aware of her legendary status in any way” said David Dastmalchian, who plays Kurt, one of the trio of barely-competent criminals who nearly stole the show in the first Ant-Man movie. “She was just another actor that wanted to hang out and, and, and make you laugh.” (AUDIO IS ABC 1-ON-1)
Ant-Man and The Wasp buzzes into theaters July 6. Marvel is owned by Disney, parent company of ABC News.
