(NEW YORK) — Disney/Marvel’s Ant-Man and the Wasp topped the box office with an estimated $76 million weekend debut. The film, starring Paul Rudd and Evangeline Lilly, took in an estimated $85 million overseas, for a $161 million worldwide debut. The first Ant-Man movie earned $57 million its debut weekend in 2015.
Disney/Pixar’s Incredibles 2 finished in second place, delivering an estimated $29 million. That brings its earnings stateside to $504.3 million, making it the first animated feature ever to top $500 million and the highest-grossing animated film of all time. It’s also poised to surpass Disney’s Beauty and the Beast as the 11th highest-grossing domestic release in history. The film’s global tally now stands at $772.7 million.
Disney is the parent company of Marvel, Pixar and ABC.
Third place belonged to Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, pulling in an estimated $28.5 million. Overseas, it topped the $1 billion threshold with its estimated $10.6 million weekend haul.
The First Purge, which got a jump on the competition with its Wednesday debut, finished the weekend with an estimated 31 million for the five days and $17.1 million for the three-day weekend.
Rounding out the top five is Sicario: Day of the Soldado, delivering an estimated $7.3 million.
The comedy Sorry to Bother You also impressed in its debut, earning an estimated $717,302 from just 16 theaters. That translates to an impressive per-theater average of $44,831.
