(LOS ANGELES) — Marvel movie star Anthony Mackie will be the new face — and body — of Takeshi Kovacs for season two of Netflix’s Altered Carbon.
The sci-fi series, based on the science fiction novels written by Richard K. Morgan, centers on far-future tech that lets people transfer their consciousness into new bodies. This plot point gives producers a handy explanation for how they can swap out former star Joel Kinnaman for Mackie in the role of Kovacs, a brutal soldier-turned-private detective.
In fact, the role was played by four actors in the first season alone: Will Yun Lee played Kovacs’ original incarnation, Byron Mann played another, and Morgan Gao appeared as a younger version of Lee’s version of the character.
Mackie, who plays Sam Wilson/Falcon in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, will take the reins for eight new episodes of Altered Carbon.
