(NEW YORK) — Bad Boys for Life topped the box office for the third week in a row, delivering and estimated $17.7 million. The buddy comedy has now earned over $148 million here in the U.S., making it the highest grossing release in the Bad Boys franchise. Overseas, Bad Boys for Life collected an estimated $30.8 million, bring its worldwide tally to $271 million — another franchise best.
In second place was Sam Mendes’ World War I epic 1917, grabbing an estimated $9.66 million in its fourth week of wide release and fifth week overall.
Doolittle took third place with an estimated $7.7 million in its third week of release.
Gretel & Hansel, one of two major releases is locked in a virtual dead heat with The Gentlemen and Jimanji: The Next Level for the fourth and fifth spots, each hovering at around $6 million mark. Gretel & Hansel, the scary adaptation of the Grimm fairy tale, starring It‘s Sophia Lillis, has the slight edge, while coming in below expectations.
The second of this weekend’s newcomers, the spy thriller The Rhythm Section, starring Blake Lively, only managed to scrape up an estimated $2.8 million — the worst opening ever for a film debuting in over 3,000 locations.
Elsewhere, The Assistant, starring Ozark‘s Julia Garner, opened this weekend and delivered an estimated $84,702 from four locations.
