(LOS ANGELES) — Film fans in Venice, Italy will be the first to get a look at A Star Is Born, Lady Gaga’s big movie debut.
Variety reports that the movie, directed by and co-starring Bradley Cooper, will have its world premiere at the 75th Venice Film Festival where, Variety notes, some recent Oscar-winning movies have launched — among them La La Land, Shape of Water, Spotlight and Gravity.
This is the fourth movie adaptation of A Star Is Born. Cooper plays fading country star Jackson Maine, who takes rising star Ally, played by Gaga, under his wing. The two become romantically involved, but their relationship is strained when her star rises as his dims.
The movie, which is already getting Oscar buzz, features new original music written by Cooper, Gaga and other collaborators such as Mark Ronson. All the previous versions of A Star Is Born have received Oscar nominations; the 1976 version with Barbra Streisand and Kris Kristofferson won the trophy for best song, for “Evergreen.”
The Venice Film Festival runs from August 29 to September 8; it’s not clear exactly which day the film will premiere. It arrives in U.S. theaters in October.
