CW’s ‘Charmed’ reboot gets OK for 22-episode season

The CW Network(LOS ANGELES) — Not all of the original series fans are crazy about the reboot, but the CW’s updated take on Charmed has performed well enough for the network to give the green light for a full season on 22 episodes.

The series, about three sisters who are also the so-called Charmed Ones — witches who use their powers for good — was initially green-lighted for 13 episodes.  The CW’s just added an additional nine to finish the inaugural season.

The original Charmed series ran for eight seasons on the WB, ending in 2006.  Holly Marie Combs — who starred along with Alyssa Milano, Shannen Doherty and, later, Rose McGowan, initially criticized the CW for moving ahead with the reboot without any input from the original cast members.  Combs particularly took issue with the CW’s description of the reboot as a more “feminist” version of the show.

“Guess we forgot to do that the first go around.  Hmph,” Combs tweeted after the initial reboot news.  Fans of the original series have also greeted the reboot with mixed feelings.

Additionally, All American, based on the life of pro football player Spencer Paysingerand Legacies — about supernatural beings at a boarding school for the young and gifted — have each been picked up by the CW for three more episodes, bringing their total episode orders to 16 each.
