(NEW YORK) — Denzel Washington’s Robert McCall is seeking revenge for the death of his friend in his latest film, The Equalizer 2. This time around, his retired CIA agent character is working as a Lyft driver while he delivers his style of justice.
Washington tells ABC Radio people were surprised to learn he’s never actually used the rideshare service.
“People are like, ‘You never took Lyft?’ And I’m like, ‘Well, I don’t drink, number one,” he says referring to the fact he doesn’t need a designated driver. “And I drive my own car. I give myself a lift.”
As far as becoming the five-star-rated Lyft driver he plays in EQ2, Washington confidently says he “did [his] homework,” joking that he also “made a little money on the side.”
But don’t expect Washington to change his career anytime soon. Joking aside, even with his superstar status, the Oscar winner says it’s unlikely he’d actually be a successful driver.
“Nah. I might not get tips,” he says. “They might think, ‘Nah, he’s all right. He’s got enough money.'”
The Equalizer 2, also starring Melissa Leo, Bill Pullman and Pedro Pascal, is now in theaters.
