NBC/Will Heath(NEW YORK) — The real President Donald Trump spent the week celebrating the end of Robert Mueller’s Russia investigation, and Saturday Night Live did the same this weekend.
Robert De Niro and Alec Baldwin reprised their now famous Mueller and Trump impersonations, respectively, joined the is week by SNL‘s Aidy Bryant, delivering a gender-bending impression of Attorney General William Barr.
One-by-one, each summarized the report, beginning with Mueller’s 300-page report, then Barr’s four-page summary, and, finally, Trump’s tweets.
“Sean Hannity has read it and he’s so excited he texted me an eggplant,” Baldwin’s Trump said.
Addressing the news that everyone indicted in the probe is related to Trump, Barr responded they were “good people.” Trump responded, “The pardons are already in the mail.”
Baldwin’s Trump further implicated himself by saying, “Russia, if you’re watching, go to bed: daddy won!”
Then, seemingly rising from the dead, Kate McKinnon showed up as former New York City mayor and current Trump attorney, Rudy Giuliani.
“Rudy, can you believe it, we got off scot free,” said Baldwin’s Trump, to which McKinnon’s Guiliani replied, “I guess my legal strategy worked. If you want to know my legal strategy, you’ll have to ask the family of goblins that live in my head and hold my eyes open.”
Vladimir Putin, played as usual by Beck Bennett, made an appearance in a sketch later in the show, his alleged control over Trump questioned by aides and even Korean leader Kim Jong-un — played by SNL writer Bowen Yang — in light of the report.
“Does Trump work for Russia or not?” an aide asks.
Putin reluctantly answers “no,” to the disappointment of his staff.
“I do most of what people think,” Bennett’s Putin pleads. “I’m still a powerful, scary guy!”
