(NEW YORK) — Halsey is known for her unique singing voice, but her speaking voice is also getting her some pretty cool side gigs.
The singer voices Wonder Woman in the animated superhero flick Teen Titans Go! to the Movies, in theaters today. She tells ABC Radio it was a dream role she couldn’t pass up.
“Teen Titans they brought to me and they were like, ‘Will you be Wonder Woman?’” she says. “And I was like, ‘Are you kidding? Will I be Wonder Woman? Yes! This is my calling. I would love to be Wonder Woman!’”
Halsey has also voiced a character in the upcoming movie Scooby-Doo and Guess Who?, as well as some other projects she can’t talk about yet. She says these jobs have not only helped her embrace what she calls her “weird voice,” but they’ve also made her a better singer.
“It’s really taught me a lot about my voice and it’s helped me to kind of embrace my weirdness a little bit and it’s taught me not to take myself so seriously,” she explains. “You have to loosen up and be a weirdo in that booth!”
“It’s so chill,” she says of the recording experience. “You go in sweatpants, you sit down, you read your lines, you joke around with some people and then you’re out. And then you’ve made this amazing story.”
Teen Titans Go! to the Movies also features the voices of Superman superfan Nicolas Cage as the Man of Steel, Jimmy Kimmel as Batman, and Lil Yachty as Green Lantern.
