(NEW YORK) — During last year’s press tour for Call Me By Your Name, Armie Hammer became a fashion sensation for his seemingly endless array of tracksuits. He’s since retired the comfy outfits but his character in the new film Sorry to Bother You might spark a whole new fashion trend.
As Steve Lift, the psychopathic CEO of a telemarketing company, Hammer sports a sarong with his suit jacket. It’s a bold choice but Hammer was all for it. In fact, his love of sarongs is probably the only thing he has in common with his character.
“The first time I ever wore a sarong was on my honeymoon with my wife,” Hammer tells ABC Radio. “We were down in French Polynesia and there was a sarong there and I was like, ‘I’ll take that one, that one, that one, and that one!’ And I literally wore a sarong every single day on my honeymoon.”
Hammer says the Polynesians had the right idea. “We need to be doing sarongs way more,” he says, noting their comfort.
But how did his wife, Elizabeth Chambers, feel about his honeymoon attire?
“She was like, ‘What are you doing?’ And I was like, ‘I am living my best life, thank you very much,’” Hammer says.
Sorry to Bother You, also starring Lakeith Stanfield and Tessa Thompson, is in theaters now.
