‘Halloween’ slays the competition, tops the box office for second week with $32 million

Credit: Andrew Eccles/Universal Pictures(NEW YORK) — Halloween topped the box office for the second week in-a-row, delivering an estimated $32 million. The sequel to the 1978 horror classic has now earned over $126 million stateside, and adds $25.6 million overseas, to bring its worldwide totals to upwards of $172 million.

A Star is Born continues its impressive run, holding down the number two spot with an estimated $14.1 million weekend. That brings its total domestic earnings to almost $149 million. The fourth and latest remake of the 1937 film grabbed another $17.6 overseas, bringing its global tally to more than $253 million.

Venom, in its fourth week of release, holds on to third place with an estimated $10.8 million domestic haul. Worldwide, the film has topped the $500 million mark, after earning an estimated $17.3 million internationally. Fourth place belongs to Goosebumps 2: Haunted Halloween, which earned an estimated $7.5 million.

It’s not until fifth place that we find the first of this weekend’s new major releases, the Gerard Butler-led action thriller Hunter Killer, earning a disappointing an estimated $6.65 million.

Suspiria — the supernatural horror film, starring Dakota Johnson, Tilda Swinton, Mia Goth, Jessica Harper and Chloë Grace Moretz — raked in an estimated $179,806 from just two theaters in its debut weekend, for a record breaking $89,903 per screen average.
