(NEW YORK) — Incredibles 2 has become the latest film to reach the $1 billion earnings mark, becoming the seventh animated feature and 36th film overall to achieve that milestone.
The Disney/Pixar animated superhero film is the fourth release of 2018 to earn more than $1 billion, joining Disney/Marvel’s Black Panther and Avengers: Infinity War, and Universal’s Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom. It’s also the fifth Disney animated feature to earn at least $1 billion, along with Frozen, Toy Story 3, Finding Dory and Zootopia. In total, 18 Disney films have surpassed $1 billion in earnings.
Incredibles 2, released in June, set a record for biggest animated debut of all time in North America with $182.7 million, and currently ranks as the ninth-highest-grossing movie of all time domestically and the only animated film to top $500 million domestically.
The first pic, 2004’s The Incredibles, earned a total of $261.4 million stateside and $371.5 million overseas, for a total of $633 million worldwide.
Disney is the parent company of Pixar, Marvel and ABC News.
