(LOS ANGELES) — At the close of Monday night’s installment of Inside Edition, host Deborah Norville made an appearance to announce she would be undergoing cancer surgery on Tuesday.
“We live in a world of ‘see something, say something,’ and I’m really glad we do,” Norville said, explaining, “A long time ago, an Inside Edition viewer reached out to say she’d seen something on my neck. It was a lump.”
The 60-year-old journalist said had her doctor keep an eye on the growth, and, “For years, it was nothing. Until recently, it was something.”
Turns out it was “very localized” cancerous thyroid nodule, “which…I’ll have surgery to have removed,” Norville explained, adding, “There will be no chemo, I’m told no radiation, but I will have surgery and I’ll be away for a bit.”
Correspondent Diane McInerney, who hosted Monday night’s show, will keep Norville’s anchor desk warm until she is cleared to return.
Norville closed the show on an optimistic note, stating with a smile, “If you believe in prayer, please say one for me and for my surgeon, and I thank you very much.”
