(NEW YORK) — Jessica Alba is says she’s thrilled to team up with Gabrielle Union for their upcoming Bad Boys television spinoff, L.A.’s Finest.
The show, which was initially passed over by NBC in May, will become Charter Communications’ first scripted series and will air on their Spectrum cable platform. Alba — who plays a police officer and mom named Nancy McKenna in the series — tells ABC Radio she’s extremely excited about the project.
“It’s action-packed. It’s super fun,” Alba says. “And you get to see two women navigating through their lives. One is living the single life, the other one has a family and responsibilities. And you, you know, can kind of see them come together as partners.”
Union reprises her Bad Boys 2 character, Syd Burnett, who’s now moved to L.A. and is working as an LAPD detective. Her her new partner, Alba’s McKenna believes Syd’s uncompromising lifestyle is a front for a “greater personal secret.”
Alba says she felt honored when Union first approached her about the show’s pilot.
“When she reached out to me to do this with her I was flattered,” Alba says. “I had just had my baby and was definitely not looking to get back to work as quickly as I did to shoot the pilot. But, I was excited to work with her. I respect her as an actress. And we’re producers on it together and it just felt like an opportunity I could not pass up.”
L.A.’s Finest is expected to premiere in 2019.
