(NEW YORK) — MTV Studios has decided to revive its stop-motion animation series Celebrity Deathmatch and has recruited Ice Cube to help them do it.
The network announced on Wednesday, Cube will star in and executive-produce the upcoming show, which will make its return in 2019 a weekly series.
The original iteration of the show aired on MTV between 1998-2001 and featured parodies of various celebrities as they engaged in brutal wrestling matches where the first to die was the loser. The show later returned for two more seasons in 2006 and 2007.
“Happy to once again be working with Viacom and MTV on a fan favorite like Celebrity Deathmatch and to continue our success together,” said Ice Cube in a statement.
With this new project, Cube expands his long-standing relationship with Viacom, where his Cube Vision banner currently produces Hip Hop Squares for MTV’s sister brand VH1.
