MITCHELL KERNELS
— Mitchell Kernel football improved to 3-1 with a 31-7 road win over Aberdeen Central Friday night. The Kernels led 13-7 at halftime before scoring 18 unanswered points in the second half. Mitchell rushed for 219 yards and forced four turnovers. Samari Wright ran for a 31-yard touchdown, while Lawson LeBrun, Mason Kempf and Bailor Kristensen also scored. Mitchell hosts West Central Friday at 7 pm for Homecoming.
— Mitchell’s Asher Dannenbring finished third individually with a two-under 70 at Friday’s Mitchell Invitational at Lakeview Golf Course. Dannenbring finished one shot behind champion Braxton Hollan of Sioux Falls Lincoln. Mitchell shot 308 as a team, tying Rapid City Stevens for seventh, with Jordan Meyerink shooting 77 and Jack Gillen 79. SF Lincoln won the team title at 289. The Kernels compete at the Watertown Invitational on Tuesday at 10 am.
— Mitchell Kernels girls tennis, 14-4 on the season, will be at Vermillion on Monday at 4 pm, followed by a dual at Watertown on Tuesday at 11 am.
— Mitchell Kernels girls soccer, 3-5-1 on the season, host Brandon Valley on Tuesday at 4 pm.
— Mitchell Kernels boys soccer, 3-6-1 on the season, host Brandon Valley on Tuesday at 6 pm.

DAKOTA WESLEYAN
— Dakota Wesleyan football rolled past Briar Cliff 37-3 on Saturday at Joe Quintal Field. The Tigers improved to 3-0 in GPAC play for the first time since 2015 and are now 3-1 overall. DWU held Briar Cliff to 226 yards, forced four turnovers and recorded five sacks. QB Jed Jenson threw for 197 yards and three touchdowns, while Landon Iverson rushed for 129 yards and a score. DWU visits Midland on Saturday at 1 pm.
— No. 12 Dakota Wesleyan volleyball was swept by No. 3 Northwestern 25-19, 25-11 and 25-15 on Saturday in Orange City, Iowa. The Tigers fell to 13-3 overall and 2-2 in GPAC play. Keatyn Liebsack led the Tigers with nine kills, Karly VanDerWerff had eight, and Kayleigh Hybertson recorded 22 assists and 10 digs. DWU visits Waldorf on Wednesday at 6:30 pm.
— Dakota Wesleyan women’s soccer, 1-1-2 on the season, host Northwestern on Wednesday at 5 pm.

SOUTH DAKOTA STATE
— South Dakota State opened Missouri Valley Football Conference play with a 27-20 win over ninth-ranked Youngstown State ON Saturday night in Brookings. Josiah Johnson rushed for a career-high 238 yards and two touchdowns on 30 carries. The Jackrabbits ran for 308 yards and finished with 461 total yards. Chase Mason threw for 137 yards and ran for a touchdown before leaving with an injury. SDSU improves to 3-1 and hosts Eastern Illinois on Saturday at 6 pm.
— South Dakota State volleyball fell to No. 14 Minnesota 3-1 on Saturday at the Pentagon in Sioux Falls. Set scores were 25-22, 25-14, 20-25 and 25-17. Sylvie Zgonc led the Jackrabbits with 16 kills, while Hannah Klein added nine kills and five blocks. Rylee Martin had 23 assists. SDSU is now 4-7 and opens Summit League play Friday at USD at 7 pm.
— South Dakota State women’s soccer, 5-2-1 on the season open Summit League play on Thursday at USD.
SOUTH DAKOTA
— USD football fell to Boise State 38-24 on Saturday night in Boise, coming up short of an FCS-over-FBS upset. The Coyotes led 14-7 early and tied the game at 24 in the fourth quarter on a 43-yard field goal. Boise State regained the lead, then stopped USD on fourth down inside the 20-yard line with less than two minutes remaining, before an 83-yard touchdown run sealed the win. Austyn Modrzewski threw for 243 yards and three touchdowns. USD falls to 3-1 and opens Missouri Valley play at Youngstown State Saturday at 1 pm.
— USD volleyball was swept by Washington 3-0 on Saturday to close the South Dakota Lottery Classic at the Sanford Pentagon. Set scores were 25-20, 27-25 and 25-17. Lauren Medeck led the Coyotes with 11 kills and 10 digs, while Avery Van Hook had 24 assists and 15 digs. USD finishes nonconference play 7-4 and opens Summit League play on Friday at home against South Dakota State at 7 pm.
MINNESOTA VIKINGS
— The Minnesota Vikings beat the Chicago Bears 9-3 on Sunday in a rainy game at Soldier Field. Aaron Jones rushed for 105 yards, while Dallas Turner had two sacks and Byron Murphy Jr. intercepted Caleb Williams. Williams left with a hamstring injury. Minnesota improved to 2-0, while Chicago fell to 1-1.
MINNESOTA TWINS
— Alan Roden hit a three-run homer and drove in a career-high four runs, while Dean Kremer allowed one hit over six stellar innings in the Minnesota Twins ‘ 8-0 victory over the Los Angeles Angels. Josh Bell had three hits and two RBIs for the Twins, while Brooks Lee added three hits and scored three runs. The Twins start the final week of the regular season at San Francisco for three game against the Giants starting Monday at 8:45 pm.
COLLEGE FOOTBALL
— Ole Miss has moved up to No. 4 in the latest AP Top 25 after knocking off LSU 32-24. The Rebels’ victory pushed LSU down to No. 10. Texas remains No. 1, followed by Georgia at No. 2 and Notre Dame at No. 3. The SEC continues to dominate the rankings with 10 teams in the Top 25. Florida and Mississippi State joined the rankings this week, while Texas A&M dropped to No. 23 after losing to Kentucky.
WNBA
— Olivia Miles broke Caitlin Clark’s WNBA rookie scoring record Sunday as the Minnesota Lynx beat the Connecticut Sun 101-89. Miles scored 21 points, moving past Clark’s previous mark of 769 points. The Lynx improved to 32-10 and stayed one game ahead of Golden State for the best record in the WNBA.
NASCAR
— Joey Logano won Saturday night’s NASCAR Cup Series race at Bristol Motor Speedway, earning his 40th career victory and third of the season. Kyle Larson finished second and moved into a one-point lead in the Chase standings. Carson Hocevar finished third, but made headlines afterward when he and Ryan Blaney exchanged punches in the pits. Blaney had been racing Hocevar for second before contact sent Blaney into the wall. The Cup Series heads to Kansas on Sunday.
MLB
— William Contreras homered as the Milwaukee Brewers earned their franchise-record 98th victory by beating the Baltimore Orioles 3-0 to complete a three-game sweep.
— Nolan Arenado hit his third grand slam of the season top help the Arizona Diamondbacks beat the New York Yankees 8-4. Arizona sits four games behind Philadelphia for the final NL Wild Card spot with six games remaining.
— Jake Cronenworth hit a pair of two-run homers and drove in five runs for the San Diego Padres, who beat the Miami Marlins 7-3 to move closer to clinching their third straight postseason berth. Fernando Tatis Jr. hit his 25th homer for the Padres, who won for the 13th time in 14 games. San Diego reduced its magic number to two for earning a wild-card spot. The Padres and Cubs remain tied at 87-69 for the top wild-card spot with six games to go.
— Gavin Williams threw seven shutout innings as the Cleveland Guardians beat the Athletics 1-0 to remain atop the AL Central.
— Sam Antonacci had a two-run double in a three-run fourth inning as the Chicago White Sox kept pace in the AL Central and eliminated the Detroit Tigers from playoff contention with a 8-1 victory. The White Sox remained a game behind the Cleveland Guardians in the AL Central and hold a three-game lead over Houston and Toronto for the third wild card.
— Mike Yastrzemski hit a three-run homer during a four-run sixth inning as the Atlanta Braves clinched the NL East title for the seventh time in nine years with a 4-2 win over the Houston Astros.
— Toronto leadoff hitter Brett Bateman reached base and scored three times, twice knocked in by Nathan Lukes, as the Blue Jays beat the AL West-leading Texas Rangers 7-2. Texas leads Houston by one game in the AL West.
— Griffin Jax tossed five shutout innings and the Tampa Bay Rays crept closer to the AL East title with a 5-1 victory over the Boston Red Sox. The Rays will have an opportunity to clinch the franchise’s fifth division title during Tuesday’s doubleheader at the New York Yankees.
— Pete Crow-Armstrong hit his 45th home run as the Chicago Cubs picked up at 9-1 victory over the Cincinnati Reds.
NFL
— Trey Smack kicked a 26-yard field goal in overtime as the Green Bay Packers rallied past the New York Jets 20-17, snapping a six-game losing streak. Jordan Love threw two touchdown passes, while Green Bay erased a 10-point fourth-quarter deficit.
— Patrick Mahomes threw for 382 yards and three touchdowns as the Kansas City Chiefs beat the Indianapolis Colts 33-30 in overtime. Kenneth Walker ran for 117 yards, while Travis Kelce had nine catches for 101 yards and a touchdown. Harrison Butker won it with a 40-yard field goal as time expired.
— Jaylen Waddle caught eight passes for 138 yards as the Denver Broncos rallied past Jacksonville 20-13. Rookie Jonah Coleman added 39 rushing yards and scored the go-ahead touchdown in the fourth quarter. The loss snapped Jacksonville’s nine-game regular-season winning streak.
— Tyler Shough scored on a 1-yard sneak with 1:28 left as the New Orleans Saints rallied past the Baltimore Ravens 24-17. Shough also threw a 21-yard touchdown pass to Chris Olave as New Orleans erased a 17-9 deficit. Julian Blackmon sealed the win with an interception of Lamar Jackson with 13 seconds left.
— Jalen Hurts threw a 3-yard touchdown pass to Darius Cooper with nine seconds left as the Philadelphia Eagles rallied past the Tennessee Titans 24-20. Hurts passed for 264 yards and two touchdowns. DeVonta Smith had 10 catches for 117 yards.
— Dak Prescott threw four touchdown passes as Dallas beat Washington 37-20. Prescott threw two touchdowns to CeeDee Lamb, who had 153 receiving yards. Washington QB Jayden Daniels left with a dislocated left elbow late in the first half.
— The New England Patriots beat the Pittsburgh Steelers 20-3 behind a dominant defensive performance. TreVeyon Henderson ran for a 39-yard touchdown, while Elijah Ponder returned a fumble 19 yards for another score. Aaron Rodgers was sacked four times and threw an interception for Pittsburgh.
— Kirk Cousins threw three touchdown passes, including two to Cody White, as the Las Vegas Raiders beat the Los Angeles Chargers 26-14. Cousins finished with 253 yards passing as the Raiders improved to 2-0. Justin Herbert threw two interceptions as the Chargers fell to 0-2.
— Ja’Marr Chase caught two touchdown passes from Joe Burrow as the Cincinnati Bengals beat the Houston Texans 20-6. Chase had seven catches for 75 yards, including touchdowns of 32 and 18 yards. Burrow passed for 207 yards as Cincinnati improved to 2-0. Houston fell to 0-2.
— Drew Lock threw three touchdown passes, all to Jaxon Smith-Njigba, as Seattle rolled past Arizona 31-7. Smith-Njigba caught nine passes for 155 yards, including an 82-yard touchdown. The defending Super Bowl champion Seahawks improved to 2-0 with their 10th straight win over the Cardinals.
— Deshaun Watson threw two touchdown passes as the Cleveland Browns rallied past the Tampa Bay Buccaneers 23-19. Watson went 24 of 30 for 238 yards with no turnovers, including a 17-yard touchdown to Blake Whiteheart in the fourth quarter after a two hour and 12 minute lightning delay. Baker Mayfield threw for a touchdown and an interception for Tampa Bay.
— Brock Purdy threw for 287 yards and two touchdowns, while Christian McCaffrey scored twice as the San Francisco 49ers beat Miami 35-13. The 49ers scored touchdowns on their first five drives.
— Bryce Young threw for 287 yards and three touchdowns as the Carolina Panthers routed the Atlanta Falcons 34-3 Sunday. Young threw two touchdowns to Darren Waller, while Devin Lloyd returned an interception for a score.
