(LOS ANGELES) — Billy Dee Williams — the original Star Wars Lando Calrissian — is set to reprise his role for the upcoming Star Wars: Episode IX, sources tell The Hollywood Reporter.
While Episode IX will mark Williams’ first appearance the suave smuggler-turned-good guy since 1983’s Return of the Jedi, the actor has voiced Calrissian in various cartoon series and video games in recent years. He made his first appearance in 1980’s The Empire Strikes Back.
Donald Glover played a younger Lando in this year’s Solo: A Star Wars Story.
Besides Williams, Star Wars: Episode IX, directed by J.J. Abrams, will feature returning stars Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac and Adam Driver, as well as new addition Keri Russell. The film is slated for a 2019 release.
