(LOS ANGELES) — The Best of Enemies, a based-on-real-life drama starring Sam Rockwell and Taraji P. Henson, has been picked up for distribution.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, STXfilms has secured the domestic rights to Oscar nominee Henson’s and Oscar winner Rockwell’s upcoming film, which follows the unlikely friendship that developed between Ann Atwater, an outspoken black activist played by Hidden Figures star Henson, and Claiborne Paul Ellis, a ranking member of the Ku Klux Klan, played by Rockwell, who won a Best Actor Academy Award for Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri last year.
Set in Durham, North Carolina during the 1960s, the film is inspired by Osha Gray Davidson‘s book The Best of Enemies: Race and Redemption in the New South. It centers on Atwater and Ellis reluctantly co-chairing a community summit, and battling over the desegregation of schools in Durham, North Carolina, during the summer of 1971.
In addition to Henson and Rockwell, the film also stars Babou Ceesay, Anne Heche, Wes Bentley, Bruce McGill, John Gallagher Jr., and Nick Searcy.
No word yet on when The Best of Enemies will hit theaters.
