(LOS ANGELES) — Scarlett Johansson is shooting down former Scientologist’s claim that she was among a list of women who auditioned to date Tom Cruise.
On Wednesday’s edition of Megyn Kelly Today, Brendan Tighe claimed that while serving as a member of Cruise’s Scientology security unit, he came across reports, accidentally sent to his printer, of women who auditioned to be in a relationship with the actor, one of whom was Johansson.
But in a statement to The Hollywood Reporter Wednesday, the Avengers: Infinity War actress said, “The very idea of any person auditioning to be in a relationship is so demeaning. I refuse for anyone to spread the idea that I lack the integrity to choose my own relationships. Only a man aka Brendan Tighe would come up with a crazy story like that.”
The Church of Scientology has also denied Tighe’s claims regarding his role with Cruise, according to THR.
Vanity Fair claimed in 2012 that some Scientology members underwent an audition process to see if they were a suitable match for Cruise. Actress Nazanin Boniadi, who dated the Mission: Impossible star between 2004-2005, was reportedly one of them.
