© 2018 Paramount PicturesSuperman himself, Henry Cavill, gets to show his fighting chops without the benefit of any superpowers in the explosive new Mission: Impossible – Fallout.
One of the movie’s setpieces is a bruising bathroom fight in which his CIA assassin character, August Walker, helps Tom Cruise’s Ethan Hunt tackle a baddie played by veteran stunt performer and martial artist Liang Yang.
Cavill tells ABC Radio how different it was fighting as a mere mortal — albeit one built like Superman — than than fighting onscreen as the Man of Steel. “Yeah, there was a lot more in the way of practicing with more complex fight choreography,” Cavill admits.
“Because with real people fighting, you need to choreograph a fight. It can’t be, ‘one-two-punch and then CGI take over into a super-move’ or something. It’s actually, it’s like a real fight. And so, that was a lot more training, a lot more in the way of rehearsals, a lot more coming in on days off or off to work just to make sure everything was down pat.”
Mission: Impossible – Fallout, which also stars Simon Pegg, Ving Rhames, Angela Bassett, and Rebecca Ferguson, is now in theaters.
