(LOS ANGELES) — Supernatural — the longest running sci-fi/fanatsy series in American TV history — will wrap up its unprecedented run with the upcoming 15th season.
Series stars Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles — who star as the demon-hunting Winchester brothers — and Misha Collins, who plays their associate, the angel Castiel, made the announcement in a pair of videos posted on Ackles’ Instagram page Friday.
In the first clip, captioned, “Well, it’s official. One more round for the Winchester brothers. Though nothing ever really ends in Supernatural…does it?”, Ackles says “Though we’re very excited about moving into our 15th season, it will be our last.”
“We’ve cried some tears, we’ll cry some more,” continued Padalecki.
“But we’ll save the emotion for next season, added Ackles.
“We love you guys and this family is not going anywhere, even though this show is coming to an end,” the trio says in the second video.
Padelecki finished with a quote from Supernatural creator Eric Kripke, who noted, “In a show about family, it is amazing…that it became family.”
Supernatural, which launched in 2005 and aired its 300th episode last month, is the CW’s longest-running series, and the last remaining series still in production from the CW’s predecessors, the WB and UPN, having originated on the WB.
Supernatural, currently in its 14th season, airs Thursdays at 8 p.m. ET.
