(LOS ANGELES) — ABC’s Roseanne spinoff, The Connors, is a step closer to nailing down a second season. Deadline reports that series regulars Sara Gilbert — who’s also an executive producer — John Goodman, and Laurie Metcalf have either signed or are close to signing new 13-episode deals.
Roseanne vets Lecy Goranson and Michael Fishman, who play Gilbert’s onscreen siblings are likely to follow, at which time the producers are expected to finalize a deal with ABC. The stars have all indicated that the show is “close” to getting a second season pickup, according to Deadline.
After the hit Roseanne reboot was cancelled last spring in the wake of an offensive tweet sent by show creator Roseanne Barr, the series retooled, and resumed without her in October on ABC. Her character, the acerbic family matriarch, was killed off off-screen, as a result of opioid use.
