(NEW YORK) — What a difference a day made for James Holzhauer — he broke Jeopardy‘s single-day cash winnings record on Tuesday with a total of $110,914.
The 34-year-old professional sports gambler from Las Vegas, Nevada, beat the previous record of $77,000 in a single game, set by Roger Craig on September 19, 2010.
“I said all along that I wanted to break Roger Craig’s one-game record and I did it,” said Holzhauer.
You could say the win was in the cards for Holzhauer, whose $110,914 total has a special numerical significance: his daughter was born November 9, 2014 — 11-09-14.
The victory also marked the fourth win in a row for Holzhauer, whose total winnings as of Tuesday stand at $244,365. He’ll face two new challengers on Wednesday.
